What to expect

Person-Centred Counselling is a gentle, collaborative form of therapy. In our sessions you are in the driving seat. You choose what you would like to talk about each week. You do not need to prepare anything before arriving. There are no structured exercises, or expectations. I will not judge you, or tell you what to do. I won't use clinical jargon or psycho-analyse you.

Instead, we will work together to understand your experiences, hear your thoughts, and work towards processing them clearly. I will provide empathy, honesty, and absolute acceptance, in a collaborative space, where I will listen deeply to you, and help you untangle your thoughts. If you run out of things to say, that is completely ok. Gentle silences are a natural, peaceful part of processing your emotions.

A kintsugi bowl repaired with gold lacquer along its cracks
kintsugi[kint·soo·gee] noun

A traditional Japanese technique that involves repairing broken pottery with gold or silver lacquer, highlighting the cracks rather than hiding them. The philosophy behind kintsugi is that broken things can be more beautiful for their flaws. It's not just about fixing things, but about embracing their past and showing that they are even more valuable for being broken.

In their words

Client experience

Carl really helped me to be able to work through a tough time in my life. I needed someone, outside of my friends and family, to listen to me so I could talk through my thoughts and feelings. Everything was getting so confusing and overwhelming, Carl helped me to work through it all. He gave me the space I needed, I felt I could say anything without any judgement or conditions. This helped me accept myself and find an inner peace.
A.E., Helston

I had tried counselling a couple of times before but only ever got as far as the first session. This time I was put at ease straight away and had a great connection. I felt able to be honest with what I was feeling without being judged or belittled.

Throughout the sessions I discovered that it was ok to tell someone my genuine thoughts and feelings and that saying things out loud to someone relieved the pressure in my head. Some of my deepest thoughts and feelings stemmed from childhood and I had never felt able to express them to anyone before. Since completing a set of counselling sessions with Carl, I feel lighter, more confident, I have more energy, I am not putting myself under pressure, I am healthier mentally and physically.

I am happy, and I now regularly stop and notice that I’m not thinking about anything negative which is a very new but fabulous way to be. Thank you for listening and asking the right questions, at the right time, it has changed my life and is enabling me to be who I am meant to be!

How I can help

Areas I work with

Whatever brings you here, you don't need to have the words worked out in advance. These are some of the areas that I support people with.

Anxiety

When worry, overthinking or panic starts to shape your days, counselling can help you understand what's underneath it and find steadier ground.

Trauma

A safe, unhurried space to process difficult or painful experiences — you choose what to talk about, how deep we go, and the speed at which we move.

Grief & Loss

Support through bereavement and loss — of people, health, relationships or futures you'd imagined.

Neurodivergence

A neuro-affirming space where you can unmask safely, and receive support to explore your unique way of being.

Faith & Identity

Room to explore questions of belief, belonging, doubt and identity without judgement — whatever your background or where you find yourself now (PIMQ and PIMO support).

Difficult thoughts

I am ASIST-trained in suicide intervention and comfortable holding supportive, honest conversations about suicidal thoughts within safe practice boundaries.
